THE REAL CLIMATE CRISIS
THE INSIGHTS OF AUGUST are profound, providing we commit ourselves to forming Graceful Shadow-Hound Teams. A potent string of words, no? Subtract any one of them, and the entire Mercury retrograde house of cards falls to the ground. Don’t.
There’s no getting around it. Mercury retrograde in Leo is paradoxical. Think: dramatized self-inquiry. Mix in the agitating extroversion of the Uranus/Mars square and a slew of Jupiter “learning adventure” aspects and we’re primed for some pensively playful soul-mirroring.
Tempted to withdraw? Careful. Isolation at this time is a tacit admission that we lack the otherworldly guts to ease ego-burning introversion into meditative relating.
In short:
Get “all in” with that flawed mortal in front of you (or initiate a “clean burn” with a grateful goodbye) as you study your shadowy past to see how actions, attitudes, and beliefs are manifesting in your life.
At the end of August, (when Mars and Mercury go direct on the 19th and 27th, respectively) forward movement begins to pick up speed. In the mean time, continue building and repairing your foundation.
The Real Climate Crisis
The worldwide climate chaos (thrown into the public eye by the Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th) sets a humble, existential tone for the first 3/4 of August. Time to ask:
What did I hope to learn by incarnating on this floating ball during a time of ecological meltdown, dislocation and tragic loss of life?
Not sure? Perhaps a little Astrodharmic symbolism will get the ball rolling.
The health of the earth, depends on jet streams to mix arctic air with its temperate and equatorial regions. What are the icy, inner atmospheres that long to weave with our equatorial parts? Try this:
The Arctic represents Pure Awareness
Think of the arctic as the land of the unborn and undying. Averse to personal identity, the arctic displays an unpopulated vastness that is as silent and impersonal as it is pure and undefiled.
The Equator represents Identity
Contrast this with the squirmy chi-fullness of the equator. Here, the rate at which life forms are born and die is faster than at any other place on the planet. Life is warm, fertile and overflowing with personal identity.
Our earthly assignment? Simple. To practice the art of allowing vast Arctic awareness to sift through and moderate mind’s hot and steamy me-stories.
There. Now that we’ve located where the real climate crisis is taking place, there’s no need for a stuck jet stream on the outside to point at the stuck jet stream within us!
Notice also that Leo (July-Aug) and Aquarius (Jan/Feb) are the hottest and coldest times of year in the northern hemisphere. Leo is warm, personal, and prone to melting ego’s specialness by celebrating it. (Think: Equator). Aquarius, on the other hand, is cool, detached and captivated by a vision of the world that is empty of ego, moving as one consciousness. (Think Arctic). Can’t figure out how complements and roses (Leo) mix with the Aquarian recognition of One Being? Careful. You may be inching us closer to an ice age.
The True Nature of Weather
Average, everyday “weather” is the manageable face of an earth that will one day consume us. Why might our soul call in threatening or destructive weather? Simple. To get us off the fence: Will you be extinguished or reabsorbed?
As the number of climate refugees mounts, the dim, longing at the core of every eye turns into a fiery ember: Will you die well for me? Will you die well for me?
In the spirit of the Uranus/Mars square- which loves to insult and cajole- let’s confess:
To the un-meditative eye, all sunsets- no matter how jaw-dropping- are foreplay for extinction.
The world is on fire, but with what?
If birth is random, so too is death and everything in between. If, on the other hand, birth is encoded with an eternity-born style of awakening (astrology), the whole planet is ablaze with grace and guidance.
Dancing in this flame, how newsworthy are earth’s “lesser fires?”
The August 11th New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Leo:
Stand Erect, Like Dream-Soldier Awaiting Orders
The sky is dark, silent, yet infused with the Leo power to create. We don’t know, but this very not-knowing- when relaxed into- ignites a vision, wild and noble, that begs to be born through us. Suddenly, the midget me-stories that too often pass for “humility” stand up straight, like a dream-soldier, awaiting orders from Beyond. As the world splits into warring factions (Sun/Moon/Mercury square Jupiter), an urgent, soul-honouring vision comes into view (Neptune trine Jupiter) that inspires us to show up fully on this shore.
The Aug 26th Full Moon in Pisces
New Visions With a Virgo Check-list!
During the four days leading up to this eclipse (22-26), the Sun, Saturn and Uranus form a grand trine in earth. When the Full Moon in Pisces joins in, an even more auspicious, high-flying “Kite” pattern takes shape, unleashing a wave of dream-realizing action steps. After two months of eclipsey self-reckoning, an inspiring way forward comes into view, complete with a Virgo check list! First week of September: launch that puppy.
