Make Existence Great Again
May supplies a simple, straightforward interlude after months of confusing and complex eclipses and retrogrades. A time to release generous amounts of forest green into our eyes and live “in the body, on the earth, as it is.”
In short: Come out of your bunkers and plant some seeds.
After May 4th, Mars in Leo breaks free of Pluto’s heavy-handed grip, favoring creative action and leadership. Mercury is sextile Jupiter during this first week, granting many a request. Go ahead, ask.
This is the time to dream up of something you’ve never done before; to believe you possess a strength you may never have stepped into. Trined by Venus and Neptune for the first half of the month (until the 21st), Mars is visionary, courageous and diplomatic: “I refuse to let the past define me.”
For the first two weeks, Saturn and Neptune are conjunct the north node. This favors associations with groups, in particular spiritual and religious groups.
May 12th Full Moon in Scorpio
This visceral, confessionary Full Moon in Scorpio is conjunct Uranus and trine Saturn, which serve to ground and stabilize its emotional intensity. Perfect for realizing one’s gut truth and cathartically letting go of the past as part of a group ritual.
Now that we’ve shaken ourselves free of the retrogrades and brightened our sense of possibility, it’s time to dive into the most life-changing transits of the month:
1) Saturn conjunct Neptune: March 3rd 2024- February 2027.
2) Saturn in Aries: May 24th- April 12th, 2028.
The Dharma of Saturn/Neptune
In 1881, during a Saturn/Neptune conjunction, Nietzsche announced, “God is dead,” No problem, quipped orphaned ego, the scientific priesthood will fill the void.
But what happens, post Covid, when so much of humanity has lost faith in both Saturn and Neptune, science and eternal life? Simple: “tear it all down” nihilism or the Mad Max Mystic. Is it really this black and white? You decide.
We have before us three long years of disorienting, unimaginable shifts when the foundational structures of life dissolve and melt out from under our feet. It will require the faith of a mystic to pivot quickly out of anxiety and disorientation into faith in the forces that are reimagining our life. Only a mystic can perceive “benevolence without proof.”
Are you fear-based or faith-based? If you “believe” you can avoid panic and self-undoing. If not, you’re vulnerable to irrational panic. Saturn/Neptune in Aries operate like a spiritual kiln. Weak faith is fired and hardened into something hard-edged and useful. The good news: so many are now becoming Astro-literate. Through the eyes of symbol we can trace the outline of an intelligent design playing out in the seeming chaos.
Saturn in Aries
On May 25th, Saturn (following Neptune) moves into the sign of Aries for 2 1/2 years, initiating a curious flirtation between sobriety and intoxication that continues straight through to the end of the year. What happens when the world’s evidence of separation starts glowing with the One Being? Can you gawk and still pay your bills on time?
Saturn/Neptune blurs the particulars of the world. Instead of seeing people and things, we’re being nudged to relate to the larger mood and atmosphere in which things rise and fall. From here, we can contemplate the phenomenon of existence, itself.
Buddhists call this “Beginner’s Mind,” which sounds sexy but without spiritual friends and ego-reckoned soul-mirrors to keep us grounded in consensus reality, it can quickly become delusional.
Intimacy, after all, is another word for “shared paradigm.” If our worldview and sense of self collapses chaotically and without support we can become siloed into our own little house of mirrors. Hello mental illness.
May and June offer needed respite. A time to savor life and, in doing so, “toughen up” our “yes” to life so we’re prepared for July when the disorienting Saturn/Neptune conjunction comes close to exact.
Bottom line: Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aries wants to forge us into spiritual warriors. What does that look like? Simple. Look around. Dead screens = unmanageable psyches. Clearly, orphaned ego is hungry for ways to be reabsorbed. Time to move our cursor over the divine intent radiating from every pale face pedestrian and click with abandon.
May 26th New Moon in Gemini
The month ends with an auspicious New Moon stellium in the sign of Gemini. With the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Uranus all trine Pluto and sextile Saturn, we are poised to greet the play of form with innocent, childlike curiosity. Can you think of a better way to “make existence great again?”
