Dream Striving
There is a time to brainstorm and there is a time to reality-test. Trying to do both at the same time dilutes the potency of both.
Fortunately, December clearly demarcates which times are best for each.
During the first two weeks of December (until the 13th), I suggest you “dream strong.” Ask a friend to listen to you as you swing between visions, wild and noble: a positive, upbeat partner, perhaps, who eggs you on with sentences that begin, “Yes! And…”
Alternately, you could fire a barrage of fantasy futures into a journal.
Only after Mercury goes retrograde in Capricorn on the Dec 13th should you begin subjecting your rant to Capricorn’s reality-testing rigor.
Take Stock
Take stock of where you are. Saturn has gone direct, a shadow-littered November is fading fast and we are not yet into the next Mercury retrograde. The mood has brightened and we’ve stumbled onto a panoramic Sagittarian vista.
Stretching out before us: a rich, loamy “soil for scheming” and a chance to sprinkle a few of those organic, herirloom seeds God sneaked into our pocket.
Let’s take a more detailed look at how the month unfolds.
Hot on the heels of November’s Sun/Mars conjunction in Scorpio (signaling the birth of a vigorous, two year project) Mercury enters strategic Capricorn on the 1st.
Next, Venus Trines Saturn on the 5th (a collaboration?) followed by Mercury Trine buoyant Jupiter in Taurus on the 8th, 9th and 10th. Possible futures erupt like flowers in the Spring.
Mercury Retrograde (Dec 13- Jan 1st)
Amorous Venus receives a fortunate opposition to Jupiter on the 10th, followed by a buoyant New Moon in Sagittarius on December 13th. The day after this New Moon, Mercury goes retrograde as it Trines, once again, the positive, questing planet, Jupiter on December 18th. (“Yes” to continued dream planning and negotiation; “no” to signing contracts until the second week of January).
Sometimes Mercury in Capricorn says, Discipline the mind or get depressed. With Mars in truth-thirsty Sagittarius until Jan 4th this is a great month to “battle the blues” by jumping into a new course of study. Indulge your zest for absorbing and sharing Sagittarian truth.
Why do people need us wise? To make meaning out of their suffering.

Solstice and Christmas
On Dec 22nd the Sun enters Capricorn: the Solstice. After a sober start, a wave of optimism may sweep over us as Mercury retrograde moves from the sign of Capricorn into Sagittarius later in the day.
On Christmas Day (Dec 25th) Venus trines Neptune, followed by the Cancer Full Moon on December 27th. Empathy is in the air.
Days of Retreat
On December 27th and 28th, Mercury and Mars square Neptune. Physical energy levels may dip a bit now and the probability of a Mercury retrograde miscommunication strongly increases. Best to move into retreat mode for a few days and keep your communications short and sweet.
On December 29th, Venus moves out of Capricorn into Sagittarius and Jupiter (ruler of Sagittarius) goes direct on the 31st, brightening the last three days of the month.
Dress Rehearsal
Think of December as a raucous dress rehearsal for a realistic New Year’s resolution. Sometimes we have to “shoot from the hip” before we go “nose to the grindstone.”
It makes perfect sense when you consider that the karmic role of Capricorn is to “kick the tires” of Sag’s impressive models of reality. Skeptical Capricorn saves us from wasting time trying to realize a dream that’s “good on paper” but unmarketable in the matrix.
