The Humble Monk and the Busking Street Artist

MATURE SOULS CONFESS: karmic predisposition shapes and informs everything we humans think, say or do. Meditation and self-inquiry: the slowing down required to get a glimpse of this otherworldly narrative playing through us.

Why are we so adverse to sacred pauses? Because they shatter ego’s fantasy of absolute free will. Because they expose what we’ve been doing most of our lives: racking up millions upon millions of missed opportunities to artfully improvise on the melody line we inherited from God.

Over lifetimes, we grow tired of swinging between strutty sovereignty and listless surrender. Finally, the soul takes refuge in a humble-yet-empowering worldview: Our life lessons may be thematically predestined, but the narrative details– and the level of lucidity with which we play them out– is entirely up to us.

How gracefully will the humble monk dance with the busking street artist? The answer may hinge on how willing we are to take a few dance lessons from astrology.
