IN THE BODY, ON THE EARTH, AS IT IS
IF APRIL IS THE “HEAD” of the astrological year, May is the neck: the downward plunging feeding tube that connects the hairy headquarters of identity to the five senses and, through them, to the fixed, lawful realities of body and earth. May says to April,
This is your chance to adjust the self-referencing fire of personal will to the slowly unfolding rhythms and realities of body and earth. Until then, you’re nothing more than flash-in-the-pan bravado.
Mantra for May: “In the body, on the earth, as it is.”
For the first two weeks, Mercury, then Venus, form a square to Saturn and Pluto. Mind is bewildered. With whom can one form a realistic, trustworthy, long-term commitment? Better question: With whom does our Taurus body pulse with ego-dissolving presence?
Another thing happens during the first 14 days: Jupiter opposes Mars and squares Neptune, forming a unique T-square intervention. A sublime time to confess:
1) In every moment that we make (Jupiter) opinion more important than the eternal, unborn, atmosphere (Neptune) that these opinions rise and fall in, we are inadvertently hardening other’s time-bound sense of self and, thereby, exacerbating their fear of death. Ouch.
2) We have been tasked to adhere to the same squeaky-clean standards of integrity expected of Jupiterain spiritual teachers. Why? Because — regardless of how pedestrian our words and actions may appear — we are constantly and inescapably modeling how to inhabit consciousness. Even now, a frightening number of souls are mimicking the me-stories and moods we speak and act from. Ouch. Ouch.
May 4th New Moon in Taurus
Aborted Paganism
How can Taurus rule both mother nature and money/business? Because, traditionally, it is meditative time spent in nature that baptizes us into our true Taurean service. Native Americans call this a vision quest. It might also take the shape of a slow, deeply contemplative walk through a park. Either way, spend some time out there under the yawning abyss during this New Moon so you can get an indigenous “fresh take” on what soul wants to do with your “blip with a lip.”
Saddened by the growl of a distant expressway? Sobered by a polluted planet in its death throes? Tempted to slip back into the mediated hygiene of a glowing screen? Stop! You’re in a trance. Remember: what appears to be toxic materialism is really just aborted paganism. Civilization: a desperate sprinting away from the ego-deconstructing power of the wild. This is your chance to break the pattern and be christened by the magic that happens when we dare to feel humble and small in the face of a raging mystery.
If self-absorption (and its evil twin, empathic failure) are fruits that fall from the tree of sensing oneself as being an orphaned ego, desperately disconected from God’s shepherding presence, this month’s embodied, presence-arousing new and full moons provide a rare opportunity for full recovery.
The True Nature of Green
Green relaxes and ripens. The metabolism-soothing hues of nature- the ever-restful, ever-ripening emerald realms that so dependably sooth and ground our Robosapien minds- return us over and over to a fecundity of heart and art; a sensual savoring of the eternal in form, flesh and finance. Green helps us remember: there’s a musky, mystical pagan behind every business suit!
A good use of your screen time? Study Astrodharma. Why? Because it’s an earth-based understanding of consciousness, in full alignment with the recent movement of Uranus (ruler of astrology) into the sign of earthy Taurus. Think of it this way: Nothing short of an intuitive “science” could slip, like a Trojan horse, behind the walls of contemporary materialist society.
Is Saturn/Pluto stirring up fear of losing something or someone you dearly love? Stop ruminating and try this Taurus self-inquiry:
What watches the desire to build security? Is Presence established or vulnerable to ruin?
May 18th Full Moon in Scorpio
Bewitching power play or the seduction of soul?
This Full Moon demands a dark, yet healthy, focus for its hissing passion. It asks,
How profoundly do you want to get to the root of your suffering? Or are you willing to settle for a low grade sense of lack and unconsciously yank people around in order to titillate and complete yourself?
Not sure? Get thee to a shamanic ceremony.
Trined by Saturn/Pluto/South node, this Sun/Moon opposition asks us to ponder,
What is the right use of psycho-sexual power and influence and what kind of energetic wake do I wish to leave behind me when I say goodbye to this long trail of desired and undesired body/minds?
Occurring at the same time as Venus conjunct Uranus, this Full Moon longs to break us free of habitual relationship choices in favor of soul-mirrors that demand a more gutsy, unapologetic revealing of our inner landscape.
How to transcend misuse of psycho-sexual power? Easy. Hold onto timeless presence like a Christian clutching at a crucifix dangling from the chain around his neck.
