Gestures of Kindness and Joy in Small Things
September reminds us that happiness is a form of mediumship: a feeling of being well-used by a larger Being; a sublimity that waxes and wanes according to how steadily we soul-mirror the beings God drops into our space.
This is otherworldly Pisces descending into the everyday routines of Virgo. This is us remembering: soul-seeing is the Pisces gym that boosts Virgo physical health and vitality; the “inner game” that makes our robe of flesh glow.
After a particularly stop/starty August, September provides a humble, tentative path forward. Between the 9th and the 26, Mercury will be transiting Virgo, offering practical solutions to day-to-day problems. In addition, Venus trines Jupiter on the 15th favoring new collaborations, traveling with others and connecting with like-minded individuals.
Yes, the Jupiter/Saturn square continues. Unrealistic goal-chasing must reigned-in. Dead trajectories must be honestly confessed and stopped dead in their tracks. This is nothing to be ashamed of. We must assert and amend– take action, then pause to reevaluate– to palpate our way into our honest, real-time values.
Life is a provocateur. It throws things at us that we couldn’t possibly have imagined. Will we contract or re-imagine ourselves?
Jupiter/Saturn says,
Admit it: A typhoon of uncontrollable events has always swirled around you. Are they providential or pointless? Decide!
Sep 2nd New Moon in Virgo
Lucky for us, the Sep 2nd New Moon (11 degrees Virgo) takes us by the hand, whispering, “Forget about the grinding, gargantuan gears of the planet and study that tiny ant: this holy instant.” It’s the little gestures of kindness and appreciation– our joy in the small things– that actually changes the world.
Opposed Saturn in Pisces, this New Moon in Virgo pushes back on compulsive ambition. Banging between sober doer-ship and mind-altering screen time? There’s something in the middle there that we’re jumping over What is it?
Time to spend more time in the middle ground, releasing spine-tingling devotional contagions into our aura that (god help us) leap across oceans in a fraction of a second.
Is this “owning of the viral nature of our inner life” what the pandemic was pointing at?
Notably, Pluto and Uranus went retrograde the day before this New Moon’s holy corrective. Perhaps they have some inspirational tips for our practice.
On Sept 1st Pluto in Capricorn & Uranus in Taurus go Retrograde
The message of this synchronized reversal is simple: There is no Capricorn (governmental) “tweak” (achieved through orderly voting or violent revolution) that can achieve the Pluto/Uranus goal of “power to the people.”
That’s right. No amount of Uranian decentralization will cure our Plutonic, top-down power structures.
Well-meaning politicians who, deep down, feel themselves as “orphaned egos on a countdown” will eventually fill the “hole of their soul” with compulsive selfing: egoic posturing, greed and a creeping callousness to the ones they claim to represent.
The Uranian fight against Plutonic control is so easily co-opted!
The only enduring revolution: a slowly incubated, wildly infectious Pluto/Uranus culture of “deathless Being” that seeps into every institution from all sides, inspired by the mystical dimension of any one of our time-tested religious traditions.

Perhaps politics isn’t as important as we thought. Spiritually speaking, most of us have all we need: a matrix of exchange and a modicum of civility that is orderly enough to evoke, yet contain, orphaned ego. Against this backdrop of benevolent restraint, we are free to turn our attention away from crude survival onto the upgrading of our inner atmosphere.
Pluto Retro Prayer
In honor of Pluto’s last corruption-exposing descent into the sign of Capricorn, (Sep 1st- Nov 19th), I felt to fashion a prayer that might motivate us to downplay- if not forgive- the evils of Corp/Gov and get on with our own confessionary homework.
Shepherding Presence, we confess: we’ve been living like an archetype slave, dead to your signs and symbols, drunk on the death-defying strut of orphaned ego. With heavy hearts, we prostrate before You now, asking for nothing but a transmission of faith; a communion rock-solid enough to meet decades of darkness with eternity-with-eyes.
September 17th Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces
This Full Moon Lunar eclipse in Pisces is conjunct Neptune (ruler of Pisces) and co-arises with Mercury opposition Saturn in Pisces. Embedded in an otherwise auspicious “kite’ formation, here’s a few ways it could play out:
1) The empowering release of a limiting paradigm/belief/circumstance that gives birth to a new soul-calling.
2) Another ominous edict from Big Pharma (an industry ruled by boundary-blurring Neptune).
During the eight days following this eclipse (18-25) Neptune will form a string of confusing (if not duplicitous) oppositions to the Sun and Mercury: our cue to carefully assess the ratio of reality to illusion in whatever is announced.
