Astrodharma Transit Report: July 2020

SIX MONTHS OF MARS!

WAKE UP! The season of stunned disbelief and “mulling our options” has come to a screeching halt. Now is the time to act upon the things we realized during our Covid-enforced retreat. Against a backdrop of continued, world-crumbling volatility, July is our less-than-perfect-but-good-enough time to “fear forward.” Here’s why:

After six weeks in the introspective, soul-reckoning sign of Pisces, Mars moved into the feisty, risk-taking (and, sometimes, in-your-face) sign of Aries on June 27th, where it will stay for six long months (until Jan 6th, 2021). Imagine what that does to the protests.

But wait, there’s more. Add in the upcoming Mars retrogrades and the activating squares Mars will make to the Saturn/Pluto/Jupiter conjunction starting this August, and the rest of 2020 looks positively explosive.

July: Window of Opportunity

Think of July as a window of opportunity to make needed changes; a time to reposition, dig-in and buckle up again before Mars starts squaring the Saturn/Pluto/Jupiter conjunction for three months (July 29th to Oct 27th). Window officially opens on July 12th when Mercury goes direct.

Okay, but what changes shall we make? In what department of life is there an astrological “green light” for us to move forward? Excellent question. The answer depends on what areas of your birth chart the red planet is lighting up and, during times like these, I highly recommend that you take the time to find out. The decisions we make in July will define, in large part, the narrative and stage set on which the rest of the year plays out.

Do you have personal planets and points between 1 and 17 degrees in cardinal signs? Act or be acted upon.

Beware of “Normalcy Bias”

Anxious? Hesitating? I invite you to reflect upon the meaning “normalcy bias:”

A cognitive bias which leads people to disbelieve or minimize threat warnings, causing them to inadequately prepare for natural disasters, pandemics, and calamities. ~Wikipedia

Get real. You’re not in Kansas any more and there won’t be a less fearful time to act. You are moving through the epicenter of a historic, society-crumbling Saturn/Pluto conjunction. For the rest of 2020, every option will contain elements of what would normally be considered “deal-breakers.” This is Saturn/Pluto shouting, “Ditch your comfort-loving preconceptions and go for your higher soul calling!”

So how bout it? Are you Rumi enough to cheer on the astrological wrecking ball? Yes, of course. Providing you understand the benevolent agenda of Saturn/Pluto/Jupiter sextile Neptune. Simply put:

Saturn is social structure. Pluto is death and rebirth. Jupiter is far-seeing vision. Neptune is spiritual revelation. Taken together:

The existential pressure of a dying civilization gives birth to a tidal wave of global community-shapers and spiritual guides.

Exciting, no?

Recession or Depression?

It’s hardly breaking news. Reactive minds are reacting. Weakly-linked friends, relationships, families, communities, countries, identities and career-trajectories are falling apart. Entire institutions are going extinct overnight. What to do?

First step: get out into nature. Sit like you were at the beginning of creation. Pray. Watch for omens. Then, when soul crowns you with a vision, stand up, join hands with a band of like-minded visionaries and get busy building a new template for community that might carry us through the 2020-2022 Uranus/Saturn square which has historically coincided with periods of economic depression and high unemployment.

Previous Saturn/Uranus Squares & Oppositions

1) 1929-1931 Great Depression
2) 2008-2010 Global financial crisis
3) 2020-2022 Second Great Depression?

Note: The next Saturn/Uranus square will be exact on Feb 17, 2021, June 14, 2021 and Dec 24, 2021. That makes 2021 the epicenter.

To summarize: the second half of 2020 is a time to do what is visionary and community-building, not what is fear-based and expedient!

What not to do:

Make one political party, figure, organization, country, culture, race or religion responsible for an entire astrological epoch! Astrologers have been predicting this year of “collective colonic” since the day you were born. By placing the blame on a single terrestrial player, you elevate them to the status of a god!

Who’s side are you on? I recommend: Taking the Side of Presence.

July Contemplation

Before divine yearning was replaced by techno-optimism and communion was replaced by good wi-fi, minds were less afraid of being murdered into meditation by holy questions that refuse update, generation to generation.

July 4th Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn:
Buy the Ticket

The message of this Moon/Jupiter Eclipse is clear: Home is the place from which we launch the vision of our lives and any home, job or relationship chosen to assuage our survival-fears without providing a foundation for this launch has to “go dark.”

Trine Uranus and occurring at the same time as Mars in Aries squares Mercury in Cancer, this eclipse gives us the guts to do something wild and noble. In all likelihood, the heart has already chosen the destination. Will mind buy the ticket?

July 21st New Moon in Cancer: Awaken From The Problem Solver

As Mars creeps ever closer to an explosive square to the Saturn/Pluto/Jupiter stellium, this New Moon in Cancer opposes the world-rocking Saturn/Pluto conjunction that began on January 12th. A dark urgency pushes us to mine its trine to Neptune so we can offer genuine spiritual support to a world full of troubled minds. But how?

Notice: as our constantly meditative soul moves through a tunnel of grace on the way home to God, ego is busy absorbing the shadows of societal imbalance. Why? Because, minus the perception of danger, problems and enemies, its identity unravels. That’s right. “Ego” is “the problem solver.”

Presence, on the other hand, acts– not so much to improve things– but to make the circumference of life more closely resemble its fully celebrated center: the divine presence in all.

Excusable and Expected

At the core of all anxiety is the fear (not just of physical death) but of non-being, the utter annihilation of identity. This is understandable. Mind-on-a-countdown has no faith in the rising up of an employable Self from the ashes of story-less Presence. It works day and night to avoid interruptions to the narrative of personhood and opinion. Fertile moments of not-knowing and naked seeing must be quickly aborted in order to assure seamless me-story survival. Again, this is excusable, expected. It’s the dream we all get to wake up inside of; the “better government” we pine for.

Over and over, society’s most sincere attempts at a “fair and equal” family of man produce nothing more than a compressed fields of egos. Why? Because bullet-proof me-stories are the closest mind ever gets to a steady ground of Being. Egos were designed to atomize into a lonely strut until someone (like you) gives them a more spacious and compassionately embodied alternative. In July, that means embodying higher octave Aries. Here’s how.

Astrodharma Prayer for July: Soul Lives Matter

Merciful Witness! Cloned and memory-wiped into tight-fisted thugs with street-smart histories, bless you for whisking us through this riot of Self-forgetting.

Walk with us now, briskly, through this spiritual winter, as we dart through the window-smashing mob of moods, the me-story graffiti that junkyards the tongue, ending before there’s a chance of beginning, the language of inter-being, until suddenly, on a wall full of tattered flyers, (proof of past lives that once deeply mattered) the faint outline of a door swings open, a flurry of hands motioning us in to the headquarters of an underground army (Soul Lives Matter) where the patriots of tomorrow warm their hands round the wood stove of Presence as the subversive tea of self-inquiry is served, cup after contemplative cup, until the shivering waif in rags (who we think we are) finally crumbles into a lump of grateful weeping on the sheepskin of god, dreaming.

Then later, in the evening, after meditation and singing, walk us out under the vault of heaven, womb of mythology, twelve cycles of seven, each birth chart a wound-gift only Saturn could leaven. Bless you for dipping us in this archetypal slurry, minds hissing and bubbling in a planet-sized kiln, slow fired, no hurry, the heat of each moment, fine tuned to harden Your wabi-sabi cookware, imperfections give character to each cracked vessel of prayer cooling quietly on the shelf of every elder.
