June has delivered us into the arms of Cancer, the part of the psyche devoted to the care and protection of hurtable humanness: the messy, unguarded sharing of our developmentally “little” parts that build bonds of trust and healthy interpersonal wombs.
Clearly, this interpersonal womb-making skill is under extreme threat. The good news: to a species possessed by the tearless ministry of screens, Cancer arrives on the scene like a super hero made flesh. If there was ever a time for the empaths to monetize themselves into the Matrix and go “alpha sensitive,” this is it.
Here’s a “pop quiz” to help you assess your sensitivity levels and go “full alpha:”
Explosive Start
July gets off to an explosive start with a Mars/Uranus conjunction in Gemini, exact on July 3/4 and active until July 8th.
This sudden, game-changing conjunction is “ruled” by Mercury in Cancer all month which is currently retrograde until July 23rd. During this first week, beware of impulsive, emotionally charged decisions and actions that don’t take your own (and other’s) sensitivity and security needs into account.
What house will Mercury retro be traveling through in your chart? What emotional stories, attachment patterns and unresolved grief are you being invited to feel yourself free of?
On the geopolitical stage, look for a sudden rupture between supposed allies.
On July 7th, Neptune turns retrograde until December 12th, exaggerating Mercury retrograde’s inward leaning sensitivity. This is a month of gestation. Our dreams and wishes are being realigned and we need to make peace with the seeming limbo. Best to minimize travel now unless it lands you in a family reunion or womblike retreat.
July 14th New Moon in Cancer
It’s hard to see into our future now, but our discomfort with the past must be honored as we reflect on our true place and people. A tonal shift arrives on the 12th when Mercury conjuncts the Sun, providing our first glimpse of a way forward. Full clarity will likely arrive during the last week of the month, after Mercury goes direct on the 23rd.
On July 26th Saturn goes retrograde and the nodes change from Virgo/Pisces to Aquarius/Leo. Time to let the drama of romance and personal relationship take a back seat as we embrace our humanitarian, community-minded, and forward-looking values.
A good time to ask: How much of the global drama can I honestly track without fear? Not much? No problem. Assign someone to be your “news filter.” Karmically speaking, newsworthiness is far less important than our attitudinal trajectory and the habits of mind we are strengthening.
Full Moon in Aquarius: Disclosure Daze
The rest of the month is overshadowed by a powerful Jupiter/Pluto opposition that culminates on the July 29th full moon in Aquarius that forms tight aspects to all three of the outer planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
Jupiter/Pluto opposition’s play out relationally, presenting a mixed bag. On the upside, previously secreted, festering truths are exposed. On the down side, our truth-telling may be too sudden and blunt, arousing powerful push-back. Political forces twist and manipulate the long-awaited “Disclosure Day.”
Note for fridge
Name and form are all the “alien” I need.
Healthy forward-moving change may now require that we contemplate actions that contradict our idea of who we are. This can arouse inner conflict. However, our need to immerse ourselves in enlightening mystery is greater than our need for cozy preconception.
Breaking the Tyranny of Happy/Sad
Given the potential moodiness of the month, it’s important to get a sadness-friendly understanding of “well-being.”
Consider this quote from Cuong Lu:
If you don’t see suffering in your happiness, your happiness is, in fact, greed.
Makes sense, right? Happiness has integrity. It ministers to all flavors of the human experience.
Meditatively understood, happy and sad arise together in a greater Being: the Merciful Witness who treasures both equally.
How, then, shall we define “happiness?” Try this:
The sublimely spacious cradling of passing moods and me-stories.
I feel enlivened by this definition because it invites souls to escape the tyranny of happy/sad and taste a more sustainable blessedness, beyond the sappy swing between sobriety and intoxication.
If we reach too much for heartbreak-free happiness, we’re ill-prepared to find “the happiness of increased wise-loving” during periods of grief, depression and loss.
