May 2015 Transit Update: Ritualize the Retro

YOU WOULD THINK a full moon in the intense sign of Scorpio on May 3rd (May 4th in Asia) would play out personally, with lots of psychosexual intrigue and/or disturbing emotional shadow revealing. Not so, in my experience. Instead, the round and ripened quality of the moon tends to amplify the transcendent – even shamanic – aspects of Scorpio. It’s as if the obsessive, personal desires of Scorpio get so ignited that they turn incandescent and its more mundane manifestations are bleached out. At last, says the soul, the ruthless detective mind has found what it forgot it was digging for: an incomprehensibly innocent, globe-sized Being writhing only with the snaky desire to wake up to itself.

Yes, you can sail this Scorpio energy straight into subtle power plays and desire-satiating passion, but if you want to squeeze maximal soul-soothing insight from this once-a-year lunar spectacle, I suggest you approach this full moon as you would an Amazonian jungle ritual. Get yourself into an undulation-friendly environment, allow personality to blur into the background and let Luna flood your eyes with legal Ayahuasca images from The Great Unknown. Personal desire? So retro!

May 3rd also marks the beginning of the shadow period before Mercury goes officially retrograde on May 18th for a longer-than-average 31 days. This inward-leaning retro in Gemini will be squaring Neptune and opposing Saturn right on through most of June. My advice: simplify your outer life and relationships and devote yourself to disciplining the Neptunian muse in some way. Finish the book or floor plans. Pause to vision and strageize the next step. It’s an ideal time to introspectively dance your pen or prance your keyboard.

Can’t afford a vacation from nuts-and-bolts decision making and messy human interaction? No problem. Lips continue to move, but the bottom line wants to be sprinkled with an air of communion. Above all, don’t fall for the Gemini speed-chat; there’s a soul in there who pines for your strange harvest.

Hold off, if you can, on the big, new decisions and complete what has already been set in motion. When misunderstandings, breakdowns and delays play out, call on Gem for a quick pivot: This is not a set-back; this is the Divine beckoning me back into dreamtime. Ah, now we are cooperating with what Mercury retros are designed to do: toss our jagged, time-bound psyches into the existential rock tumbler so we can emerge smooth and shiny. Imagine that: the sign whose key phrase is I think expertly polishes our timeless presence. So much for archetypal pigeonholes!
